A grand naval review of the Australian squadron, under the command of Commodore Wilson, took place at Fort Jackson to-day. The forces engaged included ten warships carrying fifty guns and 1500 men, including 300 men of the New South Wales Naval Brigade. The review was followed by a sham fight, in which H.M. ships Wolverine, Emerald, Miranda, and Cormorant, made a combined attack upon a point south of Farm Cove known as Lady Macquarrie's Chair, which was defended by a force of 400 men with eleven pieces of artillery and three Gatling guns under tbe protection of earthworks which had been thrown up. Large crowds assembled to ■witness tbe manoeuvres. The demonstration was a complete success, and passed off with great eclat April 13. The Wallsend Company of Newcastle bas reduced its price to seven shillings tor best coal per ton. Samples of Boorook silver ore have been assayed in London, aud average 171 and 3-16, 535, and 41$ sterling respectively per ton. The news has caused some excitement in this colony.
