DUNEDIN.

April 11.

The criminal sessions of the Supreme Court were opened to-day. Judge Gillies, in bis charge, congratulated the Grand Jury on the lightness of the calendar, both as regards the number and character of the offences to be tried. The following sentences were passed on prisoners pleading guilty:—James Mack, for larceny, two years; Harry Potter, for larceny, two years; William Everest, borough clerk of Hampden, for embezzlement, two years. The cafe of Paget, the Post office clerk, will occupy the whole day. Before commening proceedings in the R.M., Court to-day, Mr Simpson, R.M. addressed the Bar intimating his intention to commit for contempt any practitioner guilty of interupting or delaying the Court, aa had been done lately.

Last evening it was reported to the police that a quantity of female apparel had been found at Waverley under circumstances pointing to suicide. The clothes have been identified as belongiug to Emily Donaldson, aged 44, who left her home on Saturday, and who was known to have gone to Waverley that morning. She has not since been heard of, and the police are dragging the harbor.
