The following is the total amount of the property tax paid up to the close of the financial year:— Canterbury, £58,081; Otago, £45,303 ; Wellington, £38,527 ; Auckland, £33,474; Hawke's Bay, £14,251; Waitaki, £12.10G; Nelson, £10.960; Southland, £8063; total, £220,765. W. M. Downes, late managing clerk to Messrs Brandon and Son, solicitors, has been committed for trial on the first chargeof tampering with land registration stamps. He reserves hie defene. The remaining charges against Downes under the Stamp Act have been adjourned to next week for further evidence.

Henry Anderson, on remand as being of unsound mind, was discharged to-day, Dr. Johnston certifying that he had quite returned to reason.
