March 15. Efforts are being made to establish a museum at Ashburton.
A petition to the General Assembly is being largely signed in North Canterbury praying for the repeal of the tax on shepherd's dogs, and it necesssary an increase of the duty on sporting dogs. A Working Men's Club has-.-been established at Lyttelton. It is stated that a position in the Union Bank here has been offered to Spofforth, tha Australian bowler, and that Paramour, the Dunedin cricketer, is about to settle in Christchurch.
