AUCKLAND.

February 21. Francis Sheppard, a young swell, who was convicted at the Police Court for stealing various articles of personal property from the pockets of members of the Auckland Rowing Club and other associates, and who was corumitfed for trial for a most serious offence, was sentenced to-day to eighteen weeks imprisonment for various minor offences. A cart loaded with a ton of firewood passed over the stomach of <t little boy six years old in Parnell without breaking his ribs or injuring his spine. It is believed that the boy will recover. The medical men consider the case a most remarkable one.

The Australian cricketers play tomorrow. The Auckland rifle representatives go to Nelson to-morrow.
