DUNEDIN.

February 15. A lire broke out at ten minutes past nine on Saturday night in a four roomed house owned and occupied by Harold, a grocer, in Browne-street. Very little could be done on account, of the scarcity of water, and just before the Brigade arrived it seemed probable that Campbell's house adjoining would be destroyed. It, however, escaped with a scorching. The tenement in which the fire originated waa, with the whole of the contents, completely burnt. Mr Harold is at present away on a trip to Melbourne. Mrs Harold, on Saturday night, went out at half-past eight o'clock, leaving a kerosene lamp in the back bedroom. Tbe furniture was insured in the Transatlantic office for £200. Campbell's house was insured with the National for £150. Wright's furniture is covered by a policy in the same office for £100. The risk on tbe house in the Union expired on the Ist instant. Roderick McKenzie, a son of a coach trimmer employed by Mr Robin, eight years of age, went with some others to bathe in tbe Water of Leith, near Amonstreet bridge. He had not been in the water long before he got out of his depth and sank. A big boy, being near at the time, went to his assistance, and after some difficulty got him out, but he was then apparently lifeless. Dr Blair, who happened to be passing, at once attended to the boy, and used the ordinary means for his restoration. The boy remained unconscious, and died this morning.
