WELLINGTON.
February 7. The policf received a telegram last night stating that the stabling at the Marquis of Norroanby Hotel at Carterton had been destroyed by fire on Saturday night, and that an attempt had been made to fire the hotel, which together with the public hall, was saved with difficulty. One horse was burnt to death. The stable and coach-house were insured for £300.
The inquest on the late fire at Newton, in which three children were burnt to death, revealed nothing, The verdict returned was " accidentally burned." with a rider calling on the Corporation to erect the fire-bell which has been lying on the ground near there for many monthe,
