GOLD PROSPECTING.
[To the Editoe of ths Daily Teleokaph.] Sir, —In a paragraph which appeared in this morning's issue of your contemporary it is stated that " Dr. Hector, when here, indicated the western slopes of the Ruabine as the most probable place for finding gold." Now, I am under the impression tbat the writer of the said paragraph is in error, and if my memory has not failed me I am further under the impression that Dr. Hector pointed out the western slopes of the Kaimanawha; and, further, that I am the only person who, through the public press, has presistently spoke in favor of the Ruahine, as a probable goldfield. Wishing the prospectors every success.—f am, &c,
Samuel Symmes. West Clive, January 28, 1881.
