At tbe Supreme Court this morning the case of Holmwood v. the Marine Insurance Company was commenced. The action arises out of the stranding of the ship Hydrabad at Horowhenua, near Foxton, in 1878, and tbe plaintiff sues for £2315 on a general average, and £2204 for services in endeavoring to save the ship, loss of tackle, etc. The case will probably last several days. A young man last night, in attempting to jump on a tram while in motion, slipped, and the wheel passing over his foot crushed it so severely as to necessitate amputation.
