The election to fill the vacancy in the Council created by the resignation of Mr McVay took placeyesterday, and resulted in a victory for Mr Wall by four votes. Canvasing had been carried on by both candidates with considerable vigor for a week past, and the large number of votes polled shows the great interest taken in the contest by the ratepayers.
