INVERCARGILL.

January 10

Early on Sunday a brothel keeper in the suburbs named William Curran, otherwise Morris, was severely stabbed near the abdomen, on the left shoulder, and on the right arm by a respectoble young man named William Sangsfer. Curran was a few months ago sentenced to imprisonment for wounding a man in a house of ill-fame.

At a meeting on Saturday, a branch of the Irish National Land League was formed, and office bearers elected. One speaker said the Irish colonists were not of so much benefit to tbe country as they might be, through having year after year to send money home to support parents, who, under proper land laws, would not require such aid. It is intended to hold a public meeting in connection with the League.
