HAWKE'S BAY RIFLE ASSOCIATION.
Annual Prize Firing,
The firing was continued to-day under the most favourable circumstances, and the shooting, especially at the 400 yards range for the third prize, was remarkably good. The arrangements as on the first day were admirable, and the secretary and committee of management deserve the higest credit for the way in which the meeting has been conducted. The firing for the Mayor's Cup was concluded yesterday, and resulted in favor of Sergeant Ross with 67 points. The Ladies' Trophy fell to private Beck with 46 points. The prize presented by H. S. Tiffen, Esq., was won by Mr Pram, with 69 points, the first prize for the highest aggregate score in the first three matches was taken by Joseph Chicken with a total of 167 points, The committe were doubtful about there being time to shoot off the handicap for the Silver Cup presented by it. Stuart, Esq., to-day if each wnpetitor was allowed seven shots as had been arranged, so it was resolved that, competitors should be limited to five shots
each. There will not be time to-day for the match between the selected teams of the Artillery aad Rifle Association for the challenge cup, so it will probably be postponed until Saturday next.
