Leadership Of General MacArthur

The following message from the King has been received by General Douglas MacArthur, who has forwarded a copy ot it to New Zealand for transmission to the forces: — „ , L , “I send you ray heartfelt congratulations on the overwhelming success which has crowned your efforts. From the first day of the treacherous attack on the Philippines up to the last glorious moment your military skill, your dauntless courage and your inspiring leadership have gained universal admiration and esteem. Ou behalf of all my people I would ask you to convey a special message of thunks and congratulations to the forces of the British Commonwealth who have had the honour to serve under your command in the series of operations now so brilliantly concluded.” Further acknowledgments received by the Prime Minister, Mr. Fraser, to victory messages include congratulations and expressions of gratitude frojn General MacArthur, Field-Marshal Smuts, General de Gaulle, Vice-Admiral R, L. Ghormley, Admiral Sir Bruce Fraser, the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs, and the Chief of the Air Staff, R.A.F.
