Wellington Harbour Statistics
The shipping and cargo statistics of the Wellington Harbour Board for the 10 months ended July, 1945, when compared with those for the last corresponding period, show decreases in both shipping arrivals and cargo handled. The net tonnage of trading vessels arriving was 2,292,606, compared with 2,814,910 tons, a decrease of 522,304 tons. The manifest tonnage of cargo decreased from 2,089,777 to 1,570,817 tons, or by 518.960 tons. The principal decreases were in general cargo imports from British and foreign ports, 81,015 tons; general cargo imports from coastal and Australian ports, 43,700 tons; general cargo transhipments, 25,378 tons; general cargo exports to British and foreign ports, 96,891 tons; general cargo exports to coastal and Australian ports, 18,226 tons; oils in bulk, 178,432 tons; timber in and out, 859,554 super feet; wool and hemp, 13a,967 bales, . The principal increases were in coal, 9386 tons; butter, 4256 tons’, cheese, 3523 tons; and frozen meat, 21,911 tons.
