Atomic Energy

Sir. —The awesome and enormous possibilities ill the use of atomic energy need not be considered so much from a defensive or offensive point of view, but as a revelation of the majestic and infinite resources which can be used by a Divine Hand to compel erring humanity to submit to a Divine Will. One can almost see the writing on the wall, telling of the passing of the great military systems which have for so long been maintained at such a cost to each country. There is a law of change which applies to all men, things and systems, and it may well be that we are witnessing a change that will result in the actual and lasting transformation of the implements of war into ploughshares, etc. No nation need be afraid of such terrific forces, if each will do its part in contributing to the goodfellowship and welfare of all. It may be that there are even greater things than atomic energy, but a world at peace will welcome the birth of each as a God-given accessory to the well-being and happiness of all humanity. Surely this world is big enough, and its gifts great, enough, to enable us to live even as one great family of nations in peace and accord with one another. —I am, etc., PHILIP HZ KEYES. Fcilding, August 20. Abridged.
