Lend-Lease
Sir, —At last there is a trace of candour regarding lend-lease, in place of the evasion and mystification that has hitherto surrounded this operation. It is not a gift but a debt, and justifies those who have earned derision for saying so. Apple growers getting a grudged 6/9 per case, and buyers paying 16/- upward retail for the same, may now console themselves —with others, of course. I used to hear Mr. Nash refer to “capitalistic tricks” and am now wondering if he has learnt a few, or has been teaching other people.—l am, etc., HORACE E. HERRING. Wellington, August 21.
