CHARGE OF FORGING PETROL COUPONS
Arrest Made At Whangarei (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELYNGAREI, July 3. Speedy action by the Whangarei police followed the discovery that counterfeit petrol coupons were in circulation, an announcement concerning which was made by the Fuel Controller, Mr. Laurenson. Donald Lamon, aged 31, salesman, Auckland, was arrested this morning and brought before the Magistrates’ Court on charges of being idle and disorderly, with insufficient lawful means of support, and of forging a card of coupons with intent that they should be acted upon as if genuine. Detective-Sergeant Fiplay said that • Lamon arrived at Whangarei on Thursday with three other men in a car owned by one of them. He left a parcel in the hotel office on Thursday night and claimed it early yesterday morning. A parcel similar to the one identified by two hotel porters as having been in the man’s possession was found to contain 120 cards of petrol coupons. Lamon was remanded till Tuesday. Bail was allowed and fixed at £250, with two sureties of £250 each.
