Commodore S. D. Jupp, ■ U.S.N.

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, July 3. As a result of the great reduction which is being made in the size of the United States naval operating base in Auckland, Commodore Stanley D. Jupp, U.S.N., commandant of the base, will leave NewZealand to undertake other duties. It is not yet known who will command the skeleton base which will be left in Auckland.

Recognition of the manner in which Commodore Jupp has performed his duties, in their relationship with the life of the city, will be paid at a reception which is to. be held on Thursday’ by the mayor, Mr.’ Allum, at the Town Hall, The reception will be a mark of appreciation and good will to Commodore Jupp, and the guests will include representatives of many organizations and interests which have had association with the commodore and the base of w’fiich he is commandant. -I

Commodore Jupp was appointed to New Zealand in September, 1942, following the change in the organization of the South Pacific area which resulted in the headquarters being transferred from Auckland to a forward area, and in the New Zealand activities being grouped for administration as an operating base. In addition to his duties as commandant of the base. Commodore Jupp has also been the personal representative in New Zealand of the commander of the South Pacific.
