OBITUARY
Mr. Leonard Crow The deijth occurred iu Wellington on Tuesday of Mr. Leonard Crow, who, before his retirement last May, was ehiet clCrk 'bf the Social Security Department. , Mr. Crow joined the Pensions department, the forerunner of the Social Security Department, in 1906. His first Government appointment was during the Boer War, when he was requested to arrange for the supply of equipment to the soldiers proceeding overseas. M hen the Old Age Pension Department required a deputy registrar for the Wellington district he was transferred troin the Defence Department. He was later promoted to the position of registrar tn the Wellington district, and his next appointment was that of chief clerk in the Pensions Department, which had then grown to a considerable size. Upon the formation of the new Social Security Department he was appointed its chief clerk. • Mr Crow leaves a wife and three sons, Dr. L. K. Crow, aud Messrs. Esme and Harold Crow. Mr. S. J. Tisdall The death is announced from Rotorua of Mr. Sidney John Tisdell, who had conducted a sports emporium in that town for nearly a quarter of a century. Mr. Tisdall. who was born in Birmingham, served in the South African campaign, and remained in that country for some years after the war. when he decided to take up his residence in New Zealand. He was in partnership on Lambton Quay with his brother, the late Mr. W. H. Tisdall (for many years a resident of Karori). and carried on the business after the latter's death, till he settled in Rotorua some 24 years ago. Tie became known to almost every angler that visited Rotorua, most of whom had the benefit of his advice on piscatorial practice in the lakes and rivers of that district. He was associated with most of-the sporting clubs in the district, and for years was a leading spirit in the Rotorua Rod and Gun Club. Mr. Tisdall. who was 73 years of age. was an uncle of Mr. S. T. Tisdall. of the Willis Street firm of AV. H. Tisdall. Ltd. Mrs. Kate Scanlan An old resident of Wellington. Mrs. Kate Scanlan, who died lust week, was born in County Kerry, Ireland, 75 years ago. She came to New Zealand when L> years of age. Her early days were spent in Marlborough, and for the past 50 Scars she had lived in Wellington. Her name and work were linked with Catholic Church activities. Her husband, Mr. Michael Scanlan, predeceased her 24 years ago. Mrs. Scanlan is survived by four sons. Messrs. R. C.. W. D„ J. J and C. G. Scanlan (last-named overseas), and one daughter, Mrs. R. Ogden, all of Wellington. Solemn Requiem Muss was celebrated at the Basilica by the A'erv Rev. Monsignor Connolly. The Mass was sung by a choir of Marist Brothers boys, ns a tribute to Mrs. Seanlau. whose soil, Mr. R. C. Seanlau. is president of the Marist Brothers' Old Boys’ Association.
