PATRIOTIC FUND
Wellington Progress With Quota “We have now passed the £40,000 mark toward the fulfilment of our Wellington metropolitan patriotic quota of £87,876,” said the secretary fo the Wei lington Metropolitan Patriotic Committee Mr. V. Ward, yesterday. We are approaching the end of the business and professional contributions, but there, will be other substantial sums coming in. “Among these will be the Wellington Racing Club’s profits and cur share in the two big national art unions which have been allotted by the Minister of Internal Affairs for patriotic purposes, and also our share from the proceeds of sales by the National Council for the Reclamation of Waste Materials, as well as the profits from patriotic race aud trotting meetings, and the balance of the money promised in the recent telephone appeal. The total amount required by the vv ellington Province, embracing all the various zones, to meet the National Patriotic Fund Board quota and for patriotic purposes within the province was £lBO.OOO. The Wellington Provincial-. Patriotic Council was very appreciative of the support being given by the public throughout its territory in raising the quotas in the various zones. These had always been obtained. Reference was made by Mr. Ward to the recent special appeal fop the relief of Allied nationals. He said that to date £2891 had been received from the Wellington metropolitan area, and this sum would be considerably augmented when the various nationals paid in the amounts raised by them. All money raised from this special appeal throughout New Zealand was to be paid into the National Patriotic Fund Board, and when that had been done the totals would be announced.
