OPEN DEFIANCE IN COPENHAGEN

Some Streets Barricaded LONDON, June 27. Open revolt broke out in Copenhagen last night when thousands of Danes refused to obey the German curfew, says the “Daily Mail’s” Stockholm correspondent. Guards fired on some Danes, and killed seven and seriously wounded 50. The Danes barricaded a number of streets. The situation is regarded as the most critical since the German occupation. Shipyard workers were . the first to move. They sent the following telegram to Dr. Werner Best, German Minister in Denmark: — . “We are taking the afternoon off. This is not a strike, but is being done in order that we workers can obtain time in which to work our allotments and grow food for ourselves. The restrictions under the recently-imposed martial law otherwise do not permit us time to attend to our gardens.” „
