Mr. C. 11. Weston, K.C., has been appointed a director of the Wellington Woollen Manufacturing Company, Ltd., to till the vacancy caused by the death of Mr. A. E. Mabin. Paymaster Captain (Acting) W. J, G. Propliit, 0.8. E., Royal Navy, who recently arrived in the Dominion for his third term of duty with the Koya] New Zealand Navy, will assume the office of Naval Secretary and member of the New Zealand Naval Board on July 1, 194-1, in place of Paymaster Captain N. 11. Beall, 0.8. E.. Royal Navy, who will be returning to the United Kingdom shortly. Sir Hugh Acland, Christchurch, was returned unopposed to the Senate of the University of New Zealand at a recent election by graduates of the university. This election was for the purpose of filling a casual vacancy caused by the death of Dr. W. Newlands. It is unusual for an election by gradnates not to be contested, but it is understood that when the triennial election to senate takes place in October next, a wider number of candidates intend to present thenitelves
