WEDDING
Cardiff —Saker A pretty wedding took place recently at St. Peter's Church, Wellington,! between Shirley Joan, only daughter of Mrs. and the late Mr. A. W. Saker, Wellington and Harold Francis, elder son of Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Cardiff, also of Wellington. The Rev. F. O. Ball officiated. The bride, who was given away by her uncle, Mr. G. Saker, wore a beautiful frock of stiffened lace over crei>e de chine, a cluster of orange blossoms holding the long tulle veil in place. Her lovely shower bouquet was of roses, cyclamen and jonquils. She was maided by Misses Fay Honnor. Napier, Jean Lawrence aud Joan Thomson, all dressed in graceful dusky pink frocks of American jersey cloth. Their tdp-knots and bouquets to tone were of cyclamen and heather. The best man was Mr. K. Howe. Wellington. and Mr. Hugh Naylor and Mr. J. Roberts were groomsmen. During the signing of the register Mr< G. East sang “Tlie Lord is my Light,” with Mr. Millward Anderson at the organ. The reception was held at the Boronia Lounger whore about 9 guests were received by Mrs. Saker, assisted by Mrs. Cardiff. A spit of powder blue valour was chosen by the bride for travelling, mid with it she wore a smart little black hat mid'accessories. A Reminder. Residents of Karori West aud expupils of the Karori West School are reminded by advertisement in this issue of the gathering to be held in the school tonight in honour of Miss Hind, on her retirement from the teaching profession after being head teacher at Karori West for the past 12 years. Barnardo’s Helping Hand. .Mrs. Robert Hogg presided over a good attendance at this month’s meeting of the Johnsonville League of Mothers, _ when members were addressed by Miss V.Roach. N.Z. secretary for Dr. Bmnardo’s Homes. Miss Roach discussed I lie work carried on in various parts of the world which has helped many unfortunate children to become useful citizens. She also related several examples of bravery and fortitude, illustrating the spirit of the British people. A vote of thanks was proposed by Mrs. Hooper and flowers were presented to the speaker. Enjoyable items were contributed by Mrs. Burnett.
