AN ACE AIRMAN

339 Flights Over Enemy Territory AVing Commander Crajvford-Compton, R.A.F., of New Zealand, who has been in the public eye during recent months, was a visitor to the Philadelphia Rotary Club at the end of March. Says the club's bulletin: — “AVing Commander Crawford-Compton kept a large audience spellbound. His refreshing modesty caught the enthusiasm of the crowd from the very start. This genial yet tough young New Zealander, who is only 22 years old, has a yen for adventure. He has 339 missions to his credit over Axis territory, which gives him the distinction of having flown in more missions over enemy territory than any -other Allied flyer in the world. “This black-haired, husky, smiling young man gave a Vivid description of the manner in which air raids are carried out. the important job of bombers and escorting planes alike, and the extreme skill necessary in manoeuvring. He looked entirely unperturbed as he. sat smoking his pipe before Carroll Haines, as chairman, got on his feet.”
