RED CROSS SOCIAL CLUB

In spite of the faet that war conditions have sadly depleted the working personnel of the women’s social club of the Red Cross, Wellington sub-centre, a year of activity and useful work is reported. The sick and wounded circle is as busy as ever, achieving a colection of £35/8/-, part of which was given to the Reel Cross Hospital for extra comforts for the patients. The annual shop day, organized by the women’s social club, realized £74/14/- for normal activities, and the shop day fund was greatly helped by the services of the Miramar Dramatic Society. The making of several thousand roses for Rose Day, help with the Kwart Hospital garden party, the R.S.A. carnival, the full arrangements for two \ .A.D. conferences, and for Red Cross men’s detachment parties all added to the total year’s work of this hard-working group.

Five-Hour Shop Day for Soldiers. Victoria League members are specially asked to take part in the shop day to be held in the Wellington league rooms, D.I.C. building, uext Friday. Bring and buy sales will begin at 10 a.m. and finish at 3 p.m. and the league’s fund for servicemen will benefit from the proceeds. Snowball Party. The Gaiety Club in Wellington held a successful “snowball'’ parly recently, 200 young people attending. Members invited friends and some girls of tlie club acted as hostesses. Upstairs there was a dnnde and on the ground fioor games were played. Hostesses groups were led by Miss Mary Griffiths and Miss Edna Gear and hostesses on duty were Misses Russell and Kinder. Canteen duty was in charge of J* ie YAV.C.A. Business and Professional Women’s Club During the evening Miss Vivienne Walters sang and the fib? B burlesque ballet from the recent Club Follies presented their item.
