Half Of Mogaung
CHUNGKING. June 26. Chinese troops have captured the southern half of Mogaung, says a Chungking communique. Other troops are pressing on the town from two sides. The Allied forces have reached the western outskirts of Myitkyina. Bitter fighting continues in Mogauug. where the Chinese troops have continued their advance south from Kamaing. In Myitkyina the Chinese troops, on the west, and the American troops from the north have nearly effected a junction. On the Indo-Burma border Allied troops are still clearing out remnants of .Japanese on both sides of the KohimaImphal road. The enemy parties on the hima road are disorganized and appear to be in bad physical condition, says an East Asia communique. The Japanese 58th Regiment and one battalion of the J24th Regiment have been practically wiped out. The 60th Regiment has nowlost all its guns. Planes on Saturday and Sunday attacked enemy positions and troop concentration/ and road and river transport in Arakan and the Manipur Hills. On the same dav. long-range fighters continued the offensive against enemy lines of communications in central Burma, including the railway line from Mandalay, to Lashio. No Allied aircraft are missing, OCCUPATION COMPLETED (Received June 27, 11.30 p.m.) CHUNGKING. June 27. A Chinese communique reports that Chinese and Chindit troops have completed the occupation of Mogauug, the powerful Japanese base in Burma.
