SYMBOL OF LIBERATION
Badge Of Eisenhower’s Invasion Staff Au effective symbol of the Allied intentions in Europe has been worked into a shoulder patch issued to the British and American personnel attached to General Eisenhower’s invasion staff. The dominant portion of the design is a flaming sword, representing liberation.
The official description of the emblem is: “Upon a field of heraldic sable, representing the darkness of Nazi oppression, is shown the sword of liberation in the form of a crusader's sword, the flames arising from the hilt and leaping up the blade. This represents avenging justice by which the enemy power will be broken in Nazi-dominated Europe. .Above the sword is a rainbow, emblematic, of hope, containing all the colours of which the national flags of the Allies are comP “The heraldic chief (or broad band) of azure above the rainbow is emblematic of a state of pe.ace and tranquillity, the restoration of which to the enslaved people is the objective of the United Nations.”
