CONVOY INTERCEPTED

Naval Action Near Jersey (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, June 23. Coastal forces early this morning intercepted a small German ebnvoy escorted by armed trawlers south of Jersey. The escorts spiritedly defended the convoy and two brisk gun actions followed. The enemy was finally brought to close action eirht miles south of Jersey. Repeated hits were observed on the enemy. One of the escorts was sunk and a merchantman was left burning. The Allied forces sustained superficial damage and two men were wounded.
