COAL SHIPS SAIL
Cargoes For Wellington Dominion Special Service. GREYMOUTH. June 25. Wellington will receive about 3600 tons of coal as a result of the Greymouth bar improving sufficiently to enable all vessels in port to sail on Saturday afternoon. The Kartigi. which has been barbound with about 2000 tons of coal for 12 days, and the Poolta. which has been delayed a week with 1600 tons,, both got away. The Karu, which with timber for Wellington, has been held up three days, also sailed. The Kartigi’s delay was the longest experienced at Greymouth since 1940, when a ship was bar-bound for 14 days. Because of heavy seas on Friday afternoon. the Knimai, which had been in the roadstead for several days, was diverted to Westport where she loaded for Wellington. She is being replaced by the Karepo, which is duo at Greymouth on Monday to Mad coal for Wellington. There were at the weekend “000 tons, of coal on the Greymouth wharf awaiting shipment, utilizing all available hopper wagons. Soundings taken on the Grey bar on Saturday morning revealed an all-round improvement of about three feet, but loading will still be restricted.
