AT FUNERAL

John And Janet Ewart

The funeral of John and Janet Ewart, children of Surgeon Lieutenant-Comman-der lan B. Ewart and Mrs. Ewart, who lost their lives in a fire at their home in Abel Street Street. Wellington, on Thursday night, was held on Saturday afternoon. Publie sympathy with the family was shown by the crowd which filled St. Peter’s Church, Willis Street, where the service was held, and lined the streets outside. The vestibule of the church was completely filled with beautiful floral tributes. Among those in the congregation were representatives of Queen Margaret’s College and Wellesley College, where the children'' were scholars, the Navy, the medical profession and maternity hospitals with which Dr. Ewart- has been closely associated. The service was conducted by the Bishop of Wellington, the Rt. Rev. 11. St. Barbe Holland, and the vicar of St. Peter’s, the Ven. Archdeacon Bullock. It opened with the singing of Psalm 23. "The Lord is My Shepherd.” Archdeacon Bullock read the lesson, from St. Mark, chapter 10. “And they brought, young children to Him, that. He should touch them; and His disciples rebuked those that brought them. But when Jesus saw it, He was much displeased, and said unto them. Suffer the little children to come unto Me. and forbid them not: for of such is the Kingdom of God. Verily I say unjo you, Whosoever shall, not receive the Kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein. And He took them up in His arms, put His hands upon them, and blessed them.” The hymn “Jesu. meek and gentle was sung, after which the Bishop led the congregation in prayer. Pail-hearers were: Sergeant D. Mnthieson. Dr. E. Corkill. Dr. L. Levy. Dr. J. F. Zohrab. Dr. E. Luke. Mr. W. E. Leicester. Mr. G. Shirtcliffe. Mr. B. Webster. The service nt the graveside was conducted by the Rev. A. Charles.

The condition of Mrs. Ewart, who was admitted to hospital suffering from burns and shock after her attempt to save the lives of her two children, was reported last night to be fairly satisfactory.
