CLEARED OF ENEMY

Vital Road In Burma (Received June 23. 11.55 p.m.) KANDY, June. 23. The Kohima-Imphal road, the vital 90 miles north-south highway in Burma, has been cleared of Japanese after a battle which began late in March, says the Associated Press correspondent at the South-east'Asia Command headquarters. British troops driving south toward Imphal and British and Indians moving north, met in an unexpectedly swift advance. It had been thought that the Japanese would make a final effort to hold the road on the 10 miles left to them.
