Since the previous winter the power load in one of the residential districts served by the Hutt Valley Electric Power Board had doubled, though no recorded additions had been made, said Mr. E. F. Hollands, engineer and general manager, at a meeting of the board. He said he did not know where the appliances which caused the increased consumption came from. On the other hand, the board daily refused up to 15 applications by consumers for the right to use more appliances, some of the eases being of desperate hardship, because the board was overloaded.
