Rain and hall interfered with training operations at Hawera this morning, and the sand track proved invaluable, enabling trainers to give their horses solid exercise work. „ . . Black Plato and Peter’s Choice are the only Hawera horses with near engagements. Black Plato, ridden by Holland, galloped four furlongs in 52}, and Peter's Choice finished up the second round of his pace work by sprinting home two furlongs in 26. An interesting feature was the reappearance after his spell of Battledress, who is looking in great shape and Is as lighthearted as a two-year-old. Now rising six. Battledress looks capable of reproducing his three-year-old form. Horses to get through solid exercise this morning- Included Corday. Aiderman, Mr. Cute, Rebate. Miss Corvette, and War Effort. L. J. Clutterbuck will be riding at Hawke’s Bay, his mounts including Fiddler's Green and Hula Chief. Leading Jockeys. A win at Awapuni on Saturday on Hakim increased W. J. Broughton’s winning rides for the season to 36. Clutterbuck is second with 31, Wiggins third with 30, S. Waddell fourth with 29. and Midwood fifth with 26. Gynerlo Returning. The Wellington-owned Gynerio, who has. been under F. A. Roberts’s care at Riccarton for some weeks, is being returned this week to Trentham and will enter H. C. Nesbitt’s stable. Put to Jumping. The former North Islanders, Good Fun and Hippodrome, who are now trained at Rlccarton for Mr. P. Hayvice, Wellington, are being educated for hurdle racing.
