NIGHT OF TRIBUTE

Radio Patriotic Appeal *

Further details of New Zealand’s “night of tribute” nation-wide radio appeal for patriotic funds on Saturday night were announced by the honorary secretary of the Wellington Provincial Patriotic Council, Mr. Ward, M.L.C., last night. Everybody who promised a donation through this appeal would have his or her name broadcast, he said. A whole-hearted response was absolutely necessary if the Wellington metropolitan area was to reach its £BB,OOO quota attd the Wellington provincial area its quota of £lBO,OOO. The Governor-Gen-eral, Sir Cyril Newall, would launch the appeal at 6.45 p.m., and every radio station in. New Zealand would participate. The Wellington province had been zoned to permit of everyone being certain that their premise of a donation would be broadcast over one station, according to the district in which they resided. Wellington city and suburban residents could telephone their promises of donations to 56-635 or 40-570. All who telephoned through the Wellington exchange should use either of these numbers and then listen to the commercial radio station for the broadcast of their name and the promised amount. Lower Hutt city and Petone numbers were 60-481 and 60-231; station 2YC would acknowledge these districts’ donations. In all other areas of the Wellington province, including Eastbourne and Porirua, residents should telephone' their local exchange and ask for “Patriotic.” Their names and donations would be given over 2YA, excepting Palmerston North, which would broadcast over 2ZA, and Eastbourne and Porirua (2YC). Each station would broadcast progress totals at intervals, and the Dominion total at 15 minutes past each hour after 7 p.m. Every donation would count, however small, and none would go unacknowledged.
