Awards Of Distinguished Flying Cross

Day and night, while the Allied air offensive goes steadily on, pounding the industrial and war centres of Germany and German-occupied France. New Zealand airmen flying with fighter and bomber forces are playing a notable part. Outstanding in recent attacks on enemy objectives were three Dominion airmen who have been decorated with the Distinguished Flying Cross. They are: Acting Flight Lieutenant David Franklin Livingstone, of Tauranga; Wing Commander David Walter Scaly Clark, R.A.F., of Auckland, aud Flying Officer Hector Alfred Jamieson, of Pukekohe. Between January and March this year Flight Lieutenant Livingstone destroyed three enemy aircraft, bringing his total victories to at least five, according to the citation which accompanied his award. “He has performed his duties as a flight commander with skill and efficiency, showing marked qualities of leadership anil keenness to engage the enemy.” the citation continues. “He has a long recowl of successful operations.” The record of Wing Commander Clark as a captain of operational aircraft is commended in .the citation accompanying his award. He has taken part in two successful attacks on Berlin, besid s raids on Genoa. Turin. Hamburg and Ruhr objectives, -it is stated, and has displayed consistent keenness, courage and determination in all these missions. His unswerving gallantry and exceptional flying skill are described as most praiseworthy. . , ~ , Flying Officer Jamieson is described as an enthusiastic wireless operator/airgunner who had always exhibited the utmost coolness under heavy fire. On more than one occasion his ability as a wireless operator bud been responsible for the success of an operation. it was statvd. and Ibe missions in which he had taken part included visits to heavily-de-fended targets such as Cologne. Hamburg. Berlin and France.
