AWARDS FOR BRAVERY
Former Prisoners Of War Advice that the King has approved of the following awards “in recognition of gallant and distinguished services in the field” has been received by the Minister of Defence, Mr. Jones: — Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (M.8.E.). W.0.11 Herbert Sherwood King. Next-of-kin : Mrs. A. B. King (wife), 15 Goddeji Crescent, Mission Bay, Auckland. Mentioned in Dispatches. W.0.11 William Peter Notley. Next-of-kin: Mrs. L. Notley (wife), 144 Jervois Road, Herne Bay, Auckland. Both recipients, who were serving with medical units, were captured by the enemy in Crete in May, 1041, and were repatriated to Egypt in November, 1943. They are now back in New Zealand. Both left’ for the Middle East with the First Echelon in January, 1940. 5V.0.11 King, who is 31 years of age, was, before the war. a chemist in business at Auckland. 1V.0.11 Notley was a male nurse in the employ of the Auckland Hospital Board.
