Australia’s Ace Fighter Pilot (By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Special Australian Correspondent.) (Received Mav 23, 7.5 p.m.) SYDNEY, May 23. Wing Commander Clive Caldwell, Australia’s ace fighter pilot, hag returned to an operational area. With 284 confirmed kills, Caldwell is easily the R.A.A.F.’s outstanding fighter pilot. Since he left an operational area six months ago. Caldwell has been instructing at a fighter training school. Ho hopes now to overtake the record of Group Captain Malan, R.A.F., who has 32 kills. Last year in Darwin, when .Caldwell was rapidly overhauling Millan’s record, he declined promotion because the proposed appointment might have involved less flying. Caldwell holds the D. 5.0.. D.F.C. and Bar. and the Polish Cross of Valour.
