Dominion Special Service. HAMILTON, May 18. The final trials of horses engaged at the Waikato Racing, Club’g winter meeting on Saturday were followed by a large gallery at Te Rapa this morning, and much interesting work was accomplished both °n the flat and over the country. Among the steeplechase performers Surpeen showed to advantage, and anwng: the hurdlers Town Survey gave an attractive exhibition. On the flat, Colonel Vaals did best over a sprint distance, and B»llyneety over a round. The weather was fine, but cold, and the going heavy. Extra ran half a mile ’ U ThV best effort over five furlongs was that of the improving Colonel Vaals, who, after running his flrst furlong in 15, traversed the full distance in 1.9 1-5, by far the best of the morning at the distance. Soutane, Harris Tweed and Kinsman finished in that order at the end of a similar distance in the same time, their flrst half-mile occupying 5, 1-5.
