POSITIONS IMPROVED
(Received! May 16, 11 p.m.) LONDON, May 16. A Russian supplementary communique states: “South-west of Stanislavov a German alpine battalion yesterday attacked the Russian positions and succeeded in pressing back our forward defence screen and occupying a small height. A Russian counterblow dislodged the Germans from the height and completely restored l the situation. “North-west of Tiraspol our units, io improve their positions, attacked the enemy bridgehead on the left bank of the Dniester, killing at least a battalion of enemy troops. Many others were filing bad: into the river and drowned. Booty 1
was captured and prisoners taken.”
