RUSSIAN PATRIARCH DEAD
(Received May 16, 9.15 p.m.) LONDON, May 16.
The Russian Patriarch Sergei, whose death has been announced by Moscow radio, was elected Patriarch last September when Marshal Stalin agreed to the appointment of n Patriarch and the re-establishment of the Holy Synod, thus ending a long antagonism between the Church and the Soviet Government.
The Patriarch was 77 and had been Metropolitan of ’Moscow since 1!>34. He bad been acting Patriarch since lU!’>■’>.
