TE ROPU CLUB
The April meeting for soldiers parcels of Te Ropu Club was held at the Maori Hall, Tetatau ote Po, Hutt Road. Lower Hutt, recently, when Mrs. Hapi _ Love presided. The Petone Ladies’ Choir, under the baton of Mrs. Alma Millward, gave items, Mrs. W. Fisher being the accompanist and Mrs. Glover sang, accompanied by Mrs. N. Lanham. The guest speaker was Mrs. E, Coventry, who spoke about the Ngatiporou Maori people of the East Coast of New Zealand among whom she had lived. Mrs. Barnard, famous for her “gingernuts.” was present, and read letters from men of the services and various celebrities who had received some of her biscuits. Flowers were presented to those who had given items and come along to help the cause, for which Mrs. Love thanked them.
Navy League Auxiliary. Members of the women’s auxiliary of the Wellington branch of the Navy League are requested by advertisement to attend the annual meeting of the auxiliary to be held in the Navy League room, D.I.C. Chambers, on May 30, at 10.30 a.m. It is considered important that all members should attend. The public are invited to be present.
