FEDERATION MEETING
South Wellington Women’s Institutes The annual meeting of the South Wellington Federation of Women’s Institutes was held recently in Paekakariki. when there was an excellent attendance of members. "The annual report showed that the year had ben busy and successful and members had completed much war work. The treasurer presented a satisfactory balance-sheet. The president, Mrs. H. S. Powell, thanked the institutes for co-oper-ating with the federation in their activities and said she was pleased with what she had seen of the activities and of the institute spirit. Mrs. Barnicoat, Dominion president, spoke about immigration and urged members to .show their interest in l such a scheme. The privilege of helping to give such people back their faith in the future would belong to people here and the institutes would help. Two resolutions were proposed and secended. the first from Porotauhao regarding the manufacture and cost of children’s garments and the second from Waikanae in regard to the need of a carriage on a goods train passing through this station.
Mrs. Horne. Dominion secretary, gave an account of nine years’ work among the Maori institutes in the far north. Mrs. O. J. Foote. Wellington, and Mrs. Bowsie gave songs and the Paekakariki drama circle staged an amusing play ; Mrs. Stedman, president, Paekakariki W.1.. and the members of the hostess institute, were thanked for their hospitality throughout the day.
