LABOUR FOR FARMS
Early Application Needed
The National Service Department wished to know at the earliest possible moment how many farmers really required labour, stated the Minister of Industrial Manpower. Mr. McLagan, in referring to the release of men from the Army for a period for increased food production. “Applications are coming in fairly satisfactorily.” said the Minister, “but I would ask that all applications be submitted without any delay, and that farmers take care to till in nil the particulars asked for in the forms. Failure to do so may result in delay as irritating to the farmer as to those trying to assist in providing him with labour. This information is urgently needed so that the necessary arrangements may be concluded for the return of the men to New Zealand in the numbers and priorities necessary. e “Arrangements will be made as'far as practicable to place the men becoming available with their previous employers, and to that extent it will be in order to express a preference for the return of a previous employee should he be among those being released from the forces.” added the Minister. “Lists of men already returned for employment in particular districts will be available with district manpower officers in the various districts.”
