Tooth and Co., Ltd., have declared an interim dividend at the rate of 13 per cent, per annum, payable on Jlay 20. The Union Company has declared a halfyearly dividend of 2j per cent, on preference shares, payable on May 31. Transfer books close May 18-31 inclusive. The directors of the Dental and Medical Supply Co., Ltd., will recommend the payment of a dividend at the unchanged rate of 5 per cent, at the forthcoming annual meeting. If approved the dividend will ba payable on June 1. Transfer books will close May 11-June 1 inclusive. Burns, Philp and Co., Ltd., have declared a final dividend of 5 per cent., making 10 per cent, for the year, an unchanged rate, payable on May 25. , The directors of Donaghy’s Rope and Twiue Co., Ltd., will recommend to shareholders at the annual meeting on May--20, the payment of a final dividend for the year ended March 31, of 1/3 a share, making a total for the year of 2/- a share, an unchanged rate. Transfer books will close May 26-June 2 inclusive. Placer Development has declared a halfyearly dividend of 25 cents. Canadian, less absentee tax of 15 per cent., payable on June 16. Transfer books close May 23. Selfridges (N.Z.) Profit Selfridges (N.Z.), Ltd., for the year ended January 31, show a net profit ot £3833, against a loss of £1867 last year. Taxation provision is £11.546. compared With £10,710 last year. The directons propose a dividend of 1J per cent., the first for some years, absorbing £2375. leaving a credit balance of £2O to be carried forward, against a debit balance of £1438 brought in. N.Z. Paper Mills The accounts of N.Z. Paper Mills Ltd. for the year ended March 31 show a net profit of £14,437, compared with £14,789 iu the previous year and £16,689 in 1912. There is £31,945 available. The directors, as previously announced, propose a final dividend of 4 per cent., making 7 per cent, for the year (unchanged), requiring , £BOOO, leaving £23,945 to be carried forward. against £23,508 brought in. The report states that ample supplies *>_f wood pulp came to hand aud tho position regarding this raw material is now assured for some time to come. Stocks of chemicals are also adequate. Turnover was fully maintained. N.Z. Newspapers Profit The accounts ot New Zealand Newspapers • Ltd. for the vear ended March 31 show a net profit of £41,168, compared with £40,762 in the previous year and £40.909 in 1942. Tlie balance brought forward was £45,235. The interim dividend of Sd. a share paid in October absorbed £19,917, leaving £66.486 available. The directors propose a final dividend of Sd. a share, milking 1/4 for the year (unchanged), leaving £46,560 to be carried forward. Gross profit at £149,611 compares with £143.832 in the previous year, while expenses, including directors’ fees, depreciation and taxation, were £115,042. an increase of £6223.
