WAIKATO FARMERS
Views Of Big Meeting (Bv Telegraph.—Press Association.! CAMBRIDGE, May 12. A meeting of 250 farmers here today, the culmination of various district meetings, passed various resolutions including one strongly supporting the Farmers Federation. The meeting deplored the introduction by the Government of contentious legislation contrary to promise when so many men were overseas. The Local Elections and Polls Amendment Act was considered an unwarranted, attack on land-owners. The meeting viewed seriously any interference with the country quota, and also considered tna. hospital costs should be borne by the whole community. The opinion was expressed that county rates should be established as at December 1942. Fifty per cent, of those present at the meeting declared that they had not yet got their 1943-44 quota of fertilizer. It was resolved that the Minister of Agriculture be asked to release immediately all superphosphate in stock and also that farmers have the right to order straight superphosphate or serpentine superphos--1 It was decided to set up district committees with a central district executive for the purpose of organizing all farmers. -
