DAIRY PRODUCTION

Drop Of 25 Per Cent. Denied A denial that dairj’ production in New Zealand had shown a decline of 25 per cent, in two years was made by the Minister of Agriculture. Mr. Roberts, when referring to a Dunedin message publislie-J yesterdaj- morning which quoted extracts from the annual report of the South Island Dairy Association. Mr. Roberts said lie had no desire to minimize the fact that there had been a decrease in dairy production since 194142, but it seemed that the Dunedin report was bused on published gradings of butter and cheese for export, and thus completely overlooked the considerable quantities of dairy products supplied to the New Zealand mid the Allied Armed Forces. “The correct, basis of comparison.” added the Minister, is the total production of milk and cream for manufacture into butter, cheese, and other milk products. On this basis, the- decrease between the 1941-42 and the 1943 44 dairying seasons is approximately 15 per cent.”
