CHURCH OF ENGLAND MEN’S SOCIETY
The 29th Dominion Conference of the Church of England Men’s Society will open today in St. James’s parish hall. Lower Hutt. The Bishop of Wellington, the Ht. Rev. St. Barbe Holland, will preside at the conference, which will continue tomorrow and on Friday. Delegates will be given a mayoral reception by Mr. J. W. Andrews, mayor of Lower Hutt city at 10 a.m. today. At 8 o’clock tonight there will be a public meeting in St. James’s Hall, at which Canon D. J. Davies, vicar of St. Paul’s, will deliver an address entitled “The Essentials of the Church—Real Belief.” Tomorrow night, at 7.15 o’clock, there is to be a Procession of Witness, and a short address will be given in front of the Post Office in High Street by the Rev. C. W. Chandler, Cambridge. After the procession Fgstal Evensong will be held in St. James's, and the preacher will be Mr. F. W. Gilligan, headmaster of Wanganui Collegiate School, who will speak on “The Christian Answer to the World’s Need.” This service will be open to the public.
Other addresses will be given in the coursb of the conference by Canon S. F. N. Waymouth, Havelock biortli, on “The Essentials of the Church —True Worship,” and by Mr. C. S. Haniriiond, Christchurch, on “Applied Christianity.” The chaplain to the conference will be the Rev. J. C. Davies, vicar of Lower Hutt.
