Commonwealth Bank
Deposits held by the trading banks in the special war-time account at the Commonwealth Bank have reached a total of £(177,876,000. This item now exceeds the ordinary deposits at the Commonwealth Bank, which amount to £1(74,663,000. Even the ordinary deposits have doubled during the war, the total at May 1, 1930, being £82,510,000. The effects of war-time expansion are reflected in most items of the bank’s balance-sheet, notably in the holding of Government securities, now £238,799,000, compared with £52,633,000 five years ago. Money in. London stands at £93,192,000 compared with £15,986,000 before the war.
