SLIGHT WITHDRAWAL BY GERMANS

Maiella Mountain Area LONDON, May 9. German troops in Italy have made a local w-ithdrawal. They have fallen back slightly in the Maiella Mountain sector of the Eighth Army front, and taken up new positions. A correspondent says the enemy moved quickly, covered by mines and demolitions. The Germans, he suggests, have been feeling uneasy lately because of Allied patrol probing and the poor communications.
