EDUCATION PROBLEMS

Chairman For Conference The Minister of Education, Mr. Mason, stated yesterday that Mr. W. H. Cocker, M.A., LL.B., president of Auckland University College, had agreed to act as chairman of the education conference that is to meet in Christchurch in August. The Minister said that he felt the appointment of an independent chairman would convince the members of the conference that the Government wished them to discuss the problems of education quite freely and impartially. Mr. Cocker was very well suited to the important task assigned to him. Pleasure at the response being made to his invitation to organizations and individuals to submit schemes and reports bearing on reconstruction in education was expressed by the Minister. - A great deal of work, he added, was being done on such reports all up and down New Zealand, and he was hopeful of a most successful and fruitful conference.
